Northeastern Illinois University will create two sites for its Business Growth and Innovation (BIG) Center: a location close to NEIU’s main campus adjacent to one of the largest concentrations of immigrants and refugees in the city, and another site on the Carruthers Center campus located in the Bronzeville in an area with strong ties to African American communities. Project sites are located within or adjacent to Opportunity Zones, a lever for economic development.

Focus will include improvement of the physical infrastructure of the two NEIU sites, as it is currently inadequate to support the plan for an innovation hub serving these populations.
