April all-hands meeting

On April 17, Illinois State University hosted an all-hands meeting of the Illinois Innovation Network at the Hancock Stadium Club. Leaders from all 15 hubs attended and were welcomed by ISU president Larry Dietz and Mayor of Normal Chris Koos. University of Illinois System Vice President for Economic Development and Innovation Ed Seidel provided an update on IIN activities and funding, then University of Illinois System Senior Director of State Relations Jennifer Creasey discussed how the IIN can realize great impact with its advocacy efforts.

Forefront’s Sarah Tapscott presented about her organization and how it might partner with IIN hubs. During lunch, Maxine Brown, director of the Electronic Visualization Lab at UIC, shared the concept for the ENGAGE enhanced telepresence network that is planned as part of the IIN hubs.

Finally, each hub shared a brief overview of its planned activities and focus areas. To conclude, Northern Illinois University Vice President for Research Jerry Blazey displayed the great overlap among IIN hub focus areas and shared some examples of how the hubs can collaborate on large-scale research projects that benefit the state.
