Falling Walls Lab Illinois Winner Anthony Wong Presents at Global Finale
Anthony Wong, a fourth-year student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Carle Illinois College of Medicine and 2025 Falling Walls Lab Illinois winner, took part in the global Falling Walls Lab Breakthroughs of the Year finale November 6, 2025, in Berlin.
Wong earned the opportunity to present at the global Falling Walls Lab finale by winning the Falling Walls Illinois event on Sept. 12, 2025, with his presentation “Breaking the wall of safer childbirth,” in which he shared his team’s novel device to assist with difficult births in way that is simpler and less risky than traditional methods."
"I want to thank the Illinois Innovation Network and Falling Walls Lab Illinois for giving me the opportunity to connect with so many amazing researchers in Berlin," Wong said of the experience.
Named after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Falling Walls Lab is a fast-paced contest where competitors have just three minutes to propose a research-based solution to a global problem, giving early-stage innovators a platform to share their work and network. The winners of the 82 Falling Walls Lab satellite contests, including Falling Walls Lab Illinois, moved on to the global Falling Walls Lab finale on Nov. 6—the week of the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. All finalists received a scholarship that allows them to participate in the Falling Walls conference in Berlin.
